Installation of Freezteq Damp Proof Course in Soft Red Brick

Chicheley Hall was built by Francis Smith for Sir John Chester between 1719 and 1723. It has had a colourful history and was in the Chester family until 1952, when it was purchased by David Beatty, son of First World War Admiral Lord Beatty. Chicheley Hall was most recently purchased by The Royal Society for £6.5 million, with a further £12 million being spent on renovations. It has been adapted to become the Kavli Royal Society International Centre, a venue for science seminars and conferences.

Freezteq was the choice for a necessary programme of damp proofing at Chicheley Hall, with the intention of damp proofing the whole property.

The unusual feature of Chicheley Hall is the walls, which are of solid construction in soft red brick, up to 685 mm thick. These thick walls posed no problem for the installers of Freezteq, which was applied at around 60 meters per day by the driller and assistant.

The application at Chicheley Hall was conducted completely externally, with no disturbance to the fine internal wood panelling.
